The Indoor Organic Herb Garden
An indoor organic herb garden can be an excellent project, providing great smelling plants and great tasting food, which can also be quite nutritious. The advantage of having an indoor organic herb garden is that one can be surrounded by fresh plants all the time. The space hardly matters, as aromatic organic herbs can be grown in small window pots or in areas as large as a green house. A correct choice of herbs to be grown in your organic garden is very much necessary to accommodate your personal tastes. But here are some ideas to choose the correct herbs for the garden.
An Italian herb garden contains exquisite herbs, such as rosemary, oregano, basil, fennel, and chives, that will make any garden look and smell wonderful. A French herb garden has herbs such as lemon basil, marjoram, and parsley that are specially used for cooking. If you want to create an indoor garden to produce herbs that can be used as natural air fresheners, pick herbs such as angelica, bergamot, catmint, chamomile, thyme, lavender, lemon balm, mint, and sage. There is a huge variety of choices for tea lovers like catnip, chamomile, lavender, lemon grass, mint, and peppermint.
The container you choose to grow your garden depends on the type of plant grown and the atmosphere where it will sit. Small herbs and starter seeds require peat pots that are sold at discount stores. These small pots do not last for a long period of time and may need to be transplanted to a bigger pot or the ground. Once the plant starts growing the container should be changed immediately. Plants like basil, mint, oregano, and sage can be grown in 8 to 10 inch pots. For larger crops of herbs, 3 to 5 gallon containers should be used. All over the world people are growing indoor organic herb gardens to help create healthy meals, tea, and air fresheners for their families.
